JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking two detail-oriented and organized Medical Clerks to join our growing medical office team. The Medical Clerk is responsible for managing patient appointments, scheduling various appointments requested, transferring calls appropriately, composing messages and providing general information.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide high-level patient assistance as first critical contact by appropriately scheduling appointments through complex appointment making applications, transferring calls appropriately, composing messages, and providing general information.
Determine if calls are urgent or emergent by listening to the patient following established guidelines, and then transferring the call to a Registered Nurse when appropriate.
Accurately obtains information, and updates as needed, to schedule patient appointments, transportation, and delivery of medications from pharmacy.
Determines the type of appointment requested or needed, reviews scheduling mix of various physicians/providers, laboratory, radiology, and makes appointment utilizing appropriate guidelines.
Provides information on preparation for imaging appointments following established guidelines.
Flexibility with changes I providers scheduling including blocking schedules, cancelling appointments, and rescheduling accordingly.
Utilizes superior customer service skills to provide service to patients when diffusing difficult patient/caregiver encounters.
Promotes, ensures, and improves customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills which are consistent with the organization’s philosophy of providing extraordinary customer relations and quality service.
Call patients to cancel and reschedule appointments as needed.
Coordinate with medical records department to request records for hospital and ER follow-up at time of the appointment being made.
Assist operator with daily calls.
REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, SPECIALIZED SKILLS
High School diploma or equivalent.
3+ years scheduling experience working in a multi-provider medical clinic.
Organized and detail oriented.
Strong oral communication skills with expertise in communicating over the telephone.
Demonstrates ability to keep a positive attitude in an often busy and noisy environment.
Data entry required.
Medical terminology preferred, not required.
