JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance abuse issues. This role involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and facilitating both individual and group therapy sessions. The Substance Abuse Counselor will work collaboratively with medical staff and other professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments to determine the extent of substance abuse and related issues.

  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and goals.

  • Facilitate group therapy sessions to promote peer support and recovery strategies.

  • Provide crisis management support to patients in distress.

  • Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with ICD-10 coding standards.

  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate care and resources for patients.

  • Engage in child family counseling when appropriate, involving family members in the treatment process.

  • Stay updated on research and best practices in substance abuse treatment.

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, SPECIALIZED SKILLS

  • Master’s Degree. LCSW, LPC, or LMFT.

  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency with electronic health records software.

  • Must be a self-starter, multi-tasker, with ability to effectively give direction and input to care team.

  • Demonstrates and understanding of and/or a willingness to learn about cultural considerations for working with Native American patients.
