The activities are appropriate for use with elementary and middle schools. Our goal is to provide new activities with a focus on integrating health education and promoting mental well-being with physical activity. Activities presented will help promote health education concepts, experiential learning, team building, cooperation, and communication.
This training is hosted by Indian Health Care Resource Center of Tulsa, the Muscogee Creek Nation, the Wewoka Indian Clinic, the Tulsa Health Department – It’s All about Kids program, and is supported by the
Southern Plains Tribal Health Board.
The training will feature guest presenters Shana Classen, M. Ed., (Director of Health and Physical Education), Virginia Mitchell, M. Ed., (Health and Physical Education Specialist), and Ianthi deAlwis-Shields, M. Ed., (Health and Physical Education Specialist) from the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Together, the presenters have 47 years of collective experience teaching health and physical education, helping youth and families adopt healthy lifestyles, and providing healthier school environments. They all have a passion for physical education and health because it can serve as a foundation to developing healthy lifestyles.
CDC guidelines will be followed for group participation. In the event of a COVID-19 surge the event may be cancelled. This is a physically active training, so come dressed to move and participate all day!
