Thanks for the memories … Dance of the Two Moons sends kids to camp
What a wonderful evening! It was incredible to see so many people in our community come together to support our summer camp programs. The 18th annual Indian Health Care Resource Center of Tulsa’s Dance of the Two Moons was held Saturday evening, April 5, 2008 at the Tulsa Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center. This year’s event took patrons back to the days of the Wild Wild West – offering a fun-filled mix of activities with western flair, with the proceeds enabling Indian Health Care to continue to provide quality health care to area Native American children. The proceeds from this year’s event will help fund healthy, active summer camp experiences for our Native youth.
Last year, Indian Health Care provided 400 Native American children the opportunity to attend one of our summer wellness camps. It only takes $225 to provide a week of camp to a child. This cost includes food, materials, staffing and camp location. Patrons at the Dance of the Two Moons not only enjoyed a memorable evening, they helped raise the funds that will provide children with lifelong memories of summer camp. What a wonderful way to brighten a child’s future. The evening began with an incomparable floorshow from Indians and cowboys alike. Guests experienced the true artistry of traditional Native American dancers Kevin and Kricket Connywerdy. Rope trick artist extraordinaire Richard Heinrich amazed with his western rope tricks. The South 40 band kept the party lively and guests dancing throughout the evening.
The Dance of the Two Moons fundraiser is presented by the IHCRC Board of Trustees. Board member Herb Haschke, Jr. served as our 2008 event chair. This year’s Honorary Chair was Mr. Tom Maxwell, President and CEO of the Flintco Companies, Inc. Both of these strong supporters of Indian Health Care understand that many children do not have guaranteed access to quality health care. Our supporters share a commitment to help reduce health disparities and promote healthy living by increasing awareness of these critical issues to everyone in our community. Mr. Maxwell comments, “I was pleased to help support this important program for our American Indian youth. In so doing, you are rewarded with the knowledge that you have made a significant, positive impact on the quality of life for our American Indian community.”
