At IHCRC, the Human Services Department embraces the importance of the primary and extended family in the provision of outpatient behavioral health care and substance abuse treatment. The staff is culturally sensitive, respecting the religious and healing orientation of each client. Prevention programs help build mentally healthy families and combat individual self-destructive behaviors. Stability and wellness are emphasized through healthy lifestyle practices.

Behavioral Health

Comprehensive behavioral health services are provided by a professional staff of licensed counselors, psychologists, a developmental pediatrician, a child psychiatrist and an adult psychiatrist. Staff diagnose and treat emotional and behavioral problems of children, adolescents, adults and families. Clinical interviews and diagnostic assessments may include the administration of psychometric and projective tests. Psychological evaluations, assessments and information and referral services are also provided. Individual, family, marital and group therapy is available. Specialized therapy groups are offered for anger management, weight loss, diabetes and unresolved grief. When in-patient treatment is appropriate, the staff works closely with clients and community agencies to coordinate a system of care for admission, discharge and aftercare.

Many Paths - Access to Recovery

Indian Health Care is a new partner with the Cherokee Nation in the ongoing battle against substance abuse. The Cherokee Nation has received a major federal "Access to Recovery" grant to support its "Many Paths" substance abuse treatment program. The goal of the program is to improve access to substance abuse and recovery services for American Indian adolescents, men and women.

Access to Recovery is a grant program funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) that provides vouchers to clients to purchase of substance abuse clinical treatment and recovery support services. Goals of the program are to expand capacity, support client choice, and increase the array of faith-based and community-based providers for clinical treatment and recovery support services.
