600 Attend Circles of Care's May 12 Restoring Harmony Pow Wow

The Circles of Care initiative at Indian Health Care Resource Center of Tulsa held a Restoring Harmony Pow-Wow on May 12, 2007 in celebration of National Children's Mental Health Day. The event was held with the support of the Salvation Army West Mabee Boys and Girls Club, All Nations Indian Youth, Mental Health Association in Tulsa, NAMI-Tulsa, Community Service Council of Greater Tulsa, Tulsa Children's Behavioral Health Community Team, Family and Children's Services, Associated Centers for Therapy-Wraparound Tulsa, CREOKS Behavioral Health, Dayspring Behavioral Health, Parent Child Center of Tulsa, OUHSC Sooner Success, Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Creek Nation Lighthorsemen, Muscogee Creek Nation Circles of Care, Muscogee Creek Nation Youth Wellness Program, Tulsa Creek Indian Community Center, Tulsa Public Schools Indian Education Youth Pow-Wow Group, Tulsa Alliance on Disabilities and the Sapulpa Creek Indian Community Center, Indian Falls Creek.

Restoring Harmony Pow-Wow promoted awareness to children's mental health issues. One in every five youth suffers from a mental health related issue and only twenty percent ever receive treatment. Without treatment youth can suffer many consequences such as school failure, juvenile criminal involvement, and higher health care use.

Over 600 people attended the event including spectators, dancers, singers, volunteers, arts and crafts vendors, and information booths. The Pow-Wow was held at the Salvation's Army West Mabee Boys and Girls Club located at 2143 S. Olympia.
